January 26, 2007
Bowling
Green, Ky. - The Western Kentucky University Board of Regents today approved tuition for the 2007-08 academic year.
Tuition and mandatory fees will be $3,208 per semester beginning in the fall of 2007 for a full-time Kentucky undergraduate student. That is up from $2,976 for 2006-07 or 7.8 percent. The rate includes a $187 per semester Student Athletic Fee.
The Council on Postsecondary Education will vote on the tuition rate at its March meeting.
In other action, the board:
*Approved a doctor of education (Ed.D) in educational leadership, which would become WKU’s first terminal degree program, pending additional approvals at the University and state levels.
The interdisciplinary program, housed in the College of Education and Behavioral Sciences, will draw upon the array of expertise and specializations throughout the University to prepare “practitioner-scholars” to meet the needs of educators in Kentucky.
“WKU is the recognized leader in producing educators across the state of Kentucky so it’s important that we take the lead with this unique program,” WKU President Gary Ransdell said.
*Approved a new School of Nursing offered through the College of Health and Human Services. The School of Nursing will house the bachelor’s and master’s programs in the CHHS and administratively link to the associate’s program at WKU’s Bowling Green Community College.
Donna Blackburn, head of the Nursing Department, said the School of Nursing would add more visibility to WKU’s nursing programs and would attract more students and faculty members as WKU responds to the growing need for nurses.
*Approved a bachelor’s degree in geographic information science, a bachelor’s degree in meteorology and a master’s degree in applied economics.
*Approved a new Bioinformatics and Information Science Center in Ogden College of Science and Technology’s Applied Research and Technology Program.
