Bowling
Green, Ky. - Western Kentucky University forensic team members traveled to St. Louis, Mo., Tallahassee, Fla., and Ypsilanti, Mich., to take part in three tournaments Jan. 26-27.
At the Webster Invitational in St. Louis, the debate team grabbed the debate sweepstakes championship, with Washburn University taking second and McKendree College going home with third place.
In District Qualifier/Florida Swing in Tallahassee, the WKU team qualified more students for the national tournament in April, taking the second-place sweepstakes trophy from the first portion and the championship trophy from the second portion.
At Eastern Michigan Tower Invitational, WKU’s five team members each walked away with a trophy, and the team placed second overall. Berry College was first overall with Northwestern University in third.

Joelle Perry, a senior from Florence, first parliamentary debate speaker, semifinalist in Lincoln-Douglas debate, fourth speaker in Lincoln-Douglas debate, octofinalist in parliamentary debate (with Thomas Schally).
Jessica Furgerson, a freshman from San Antonio, second parliamentary debate speaker, fourth in informative speaking, sixth in impromptu speaking, double octofinalist in parliamentary debate (with Adam Heugel).
Chad Meadows, a junior from Owensboro, quarterfinalist in parliamentary debate (with Lauren Nelson), quarterfinalist in Lincoln-Douglas debate, excellence award in extemporaneous speaking, 15th parliamentary debate speaker.
Adam Heugel, a junior from Rosenburg, Texas, excellence award in extemporaneous speaking, double octofinalist in parliamentary debate (with Jessica Furgerson).
