Green, Ky. - Western Kentucky University’s forensic team opened the spring semester with a win in two tournaments Jan. 12-13 in Austin, Texas.
At Hell Froze Over Swing, hosted by the University of Texas-Austin and Bradley University, WKU was crowned overall sweepstakes champion, with Illinois State University taking second and George-Mason University taking third place.
Individual results are as follows:
Lydia Nelson, a senior from Carver, Mass., second in programmed oral interpretation and third in dramatic interpretation in the Texas portion; tournament champion in informative speaking, tournament champion in programmed oral interpretation, fourth in individual sweepstakes and fifth in after-dinner speaking in the Bradley portion.
Seth Peckham, a freshman from Alden, Kan., tournament champion in impromptu speaking and third in extemporaneous speaking in the Texas portion; sixth in impromptu speaking and sixth in extemporaneous speaking in the Bradley portion.
Saeed Jones, a junior from Lewisville, Texas, third in after-dinner speaking, fifth in persuasive speaking and semifinalist in poetry interpretation in the Texas portion; second in impromptu, fourth in after-dinner speaking and semifinalist in persuasive speaking in the Bradley portion.
Joelle Perry, a senior from Florence, second in extemporaneous speaking and fifth in impromptu speaking in the Texas portion; tournament champion in impromptu speaking, fifth in individual sweepstakes and semifinalist in extemporaneous speaking in the Bradley portion.
Natalie Sintek, a junior from Eagan, Minn., fifth in dramatic interpretation and semifinalist in persuasive speaking in the Texas portion; third in dramatic interpretation and fifth in persuasive speaking in the Bradley portion.
Lauren Nelson, a sophomore from Wheaton, Ill., second in persuasive speaking in the Texas portion; tournament champion in extemporaneous speaking and sixth in persuasive speaking in the Bradley portion.
Beth Berger, a junior from Lexington, fifth in after-dinner speaking in the Texas portion.
Benjamin Pyle, a junior from Harrisburg, Ill., semifinalist in prose interpretation in the Bradley portion.
Nick Courtney, a sophomore from Morristown, Tenn., semifinalist in poetry interpretation in the Bradley portion.
