Bowling
Green, Ky.
- Western Kentucky University staff member Karla Andrew and eight students have earned national certification in floodplain management.
The group passed the Certified Floodplain Manager examination to complete CE 300 Floodplain Management, the capstone course in WKU’s new minor in floodplain management. The minor is the first of its kind in the United States.
The CFM program is a national certification by the Association of State Floodplain Managers, a professional organization of several thousand members and the largest organization in the country devoted to floodplain management.
The course will be taught again in the spring semester with 15 more potential CFMs enrolled, according to Dr. Warren Campbell, associate professor of civil engineering. “We have had and will continue to have a significant impact on Kentucky floodplain management,” he said.
WKU students who earned the CFM certification are: Eric Broomfield of Nashville, Tenn.; Kevin Collignon of Philpot; Heath Crawford, Steven Hupper, Jeremy Rodgers, Matthew Stone and Kyle Turpen, all of Bowling Green, and Kal Vencill of Richmond. Karla Andrew is a project manager in WKU’s Center for Water Resource Studies.
