'Deal Or No Deal'

Green, Ky. - Western Kentucky University mascot Big Red will make a prime time appearance in February on NBC’s “Deal or No Deal” as a supporter of WKU graduate Kate Mercer Miller.
Miller, a 2003 graduate who lives in Newburgh, Ind., is scheduled to appear on the show Feb. 12 and 14.
So was Big Red able to help convince Miller to go for a million dollars? She can’t tell anyone at this point, and Big Red’s not talking, either.
"My ‘Deal or No Deal’ adventure was the experience of a lifetime, a real dream come true for me,” said Miller, a native of Hardinsburg, Ky. “I have always been fascinated with network television and I had a chance to witness a real-live taping of a hit show and actually play a role in it. My producer was top notch and Howie was hilarious, a really genuine person.”
Miller tried out for the game show last July at an open casting call in Evansville, Ind., that drew more than 3,500 applicants. After waiting in line for hours, Miller had her chance to impress the cameras. During her interview she talked about her WKU spirit and her time as a Spirit Master on the Hill.
She was called back for a second interview and was told to bring her supporters. To tie in her school spirit theme, Miller brought along Big Red, her biggest supporter. Miller was selected for the show and was flown to Hollywood along with Big Red and her other supporters in December.
“WKU was a huge part of my life, so to have Western’s spirit, in the form of Big Red, at my taping was icing on the cake. I appreciate all the help from everyone who made this experience a reality for me and family.”
