Green, Ky. - “Charting our Past, Present and Future” is the theme of Black History Month 2007 activities at Western Kentucky University.
Events include an art exhibit, lectures, concerts, film series and other presentations during the month of February. Black History Month events are coordinated by the Office of Diversity Programs and sponsored by numerous campus organizations and departments.

Feb. 1-28: Art exhibit featuring the works of Thelma Green. Barnes & Noble Booksellers, 1680 Campbell Lane. Sponsored by WKU Libraries.
Feb. 2: Lecture by Sheila Williams, author of “Dancing on the Edge of the Roof” and “Girls Most Likely.” 10 a.m. at Helm Library. Sponsored by WKU Libraries.
Feb. 5: Lecture by Dr. Boyce Watkins, educational motivator, social commentator and financial expert who will speak to WKU students about ways to increase their educational success. 2 p.m. at Downing University Center, room 340. Sponsored by Campus Activities Board.
Feb. 6: Soul Food Dinner. 4:30-8 p.m. at Downing University Center’s Fresh Food Court. Entertainment provided by The Village Cultural Arts Center. Sponsored by Aramark, the Office of Diversity Programs, and University Centers and Leadership Programs.
Feb. 7: African American Film Series presents “HIP HOP: Beyond Beats and Rhymes,” a documentary on hip-hop culture. 4:30-8 p.m. at Cherry Hall, room 125. Sponsored by the Women’s Studies Program, Housing and Residence Life, WKU Libraries and the English Department.
Feb. 8: Lecture by Jeffrey “Cousin Jeff” Johnson, social activist and leadership trainer. 8 p.m. at Downing University Center Theatre. Sponsored by Campus Activities Board.
Feb. 13: African American Film Series presents “Ethnic Notions,” a documentary on the evolution of racial consciousness in America. 2:30-3:30 p.m. at Cherry Hall, room 125. Sponsored by the Women’s Studies Program, Housing and Residence Life, WKU Libraries and the English Department.
Feb. 13: Open forum on “Don’t Get it Twisted: Being a Christian in College.” 7 p.m. at Downing University Center, room 305. Sponsored by the Amazing Tones of Joy.
Feb. 15: Student Excellence Banquet. 6 p.m. at Downing University Center’s Cupola Room. Sponsored by the Office of Diversity Programs, Campus Activities Board and Aramark.
Feb. 17: The Crimson and Cream Ball. 10 p.m. at the Knicely Conference Center, WKU South Campus. Tickets are $12 for singles and $20 for couples in advance or $22 for singles and $30 for couples at the door. Sponsored by Delta Sigma Theta (Eta Zeta chapter) and Kappa Alpha Psi (Epsilon Rho chapter).
Feb. 20: Financial Literacy Seminar with James Marshall, president of Marshall Capital Management Group. 6 p.m. at Downing University Center Theatre. Sponsored by the WKU Department of Finance and the WKU Chapter of the NAACP.
Feb. 21: Concert by R&B artist Bobby Valentino. 8 p.m. at Van Meter Auditorium; doors open at 7 p.m. Tickets are $15 general admission or $10 with WKU student ID. Sponsored by Campus Activities Board.
Feb. 22: Concert by Kenyan band Jabali Afrika. 7 p.m. at Downing University Center Theatre. Sponsored by Campus Activities Board.
Feb. 24: Black History Month Banquet. 7 p.m. at the Knicely Conference Center, WKU South Campus. Tickets are $25. Sponsored by Delta Sigma Theta Sorority; proceeds benefit the sorority’s scholarship fund.
Feb. 26: African American Film Series presents “What’s Race Got to Do With It?” a documentary on the experiences of a diverse group of college students. 4-5 p.m. at Cherry Hall, room 125. Sponsored by the Women’s Studies Program, Housing and Residence Life, WKU Libraries and the English Department.
Feb. 27: Minority Future on the Hill. 7 p.m. at Downing University Center, room 305. Sponsored by the Black Student Alliance and Office of Diversity Programs.
