3 WKU Graduates To Receive National Nonprofit Leadership Certification From American Humanics, Inc.

Bowling Green, Ky. - Three December graduates of Western Kentucky University will be honored next week with the national Nonprofit Leadership Certification from American Humanics, Inc.

Dr. SueAnn Strom, American Humanics Vice President for Academic Partnerships, will award the certifications during two presentation ceremonies Monday and Tuesday (Feb. 12 and 13) in Bowling Green.

The students being honored are:

Toni “TJ” Clapp of Glasgow, who earned a bachelor’s degree in recreation administration. She completed an internship and is employed with the Barren County Family YMCA in Glasgow.

Tabatha Gregory of Leitchfield, who earned a bachelor’s degree in political science. She completed an internship and is employed with the Barren River Area Safe Space, Inc. in Bowling Green.

Sarah Starkey of Bowling Green, who earned a bachelor’s degree in recreation administration. She completed an internship and is employed with Big Brothers Big Sisters in Bowling Green.

Each of the students also completed the American Humanics (Nonprofit Leadership) minor at WKU (www.wku.edu/AH).

The first presentation ceremony will be held at 3 p.m. Monday (Feb. 12) during a meeting with President Gary Ransdell; Dr. Barbara Burch, provost and vice president for Academic Affairs; Dr. Sylvia Gaiko, associate dean, College of Health and Human Services; Dr. Thad Crews, department head, Physical Education and Recreation; Dr. Fred Gibson, program coordinator, Recreation Administration; and Dr. Raymond Poff, executive director, WKU American Humanics program.

The second presentation will take place at 8:30 a.m. Tuesday (Feb. 13) at the Bowling Green Public Library during a meeting with several community nonprofit leaders. Dr. Strom and Dr. Poff will make the presentations.

American Humanics, headquartered in Kansas City, Mo., is a national alliance of colleges, universities and nonprofit organizations that prepares and certifies college students for professional careers in youth and human service agencies. American Humanics is affiliated with more than 75 colleges and universities nationwide including WKU, and partners with more than 50 national nonprofit organizations including Big Brothers Big Sisters, the YMCA, and the United Way.
