WKU's Imagewest Students Win Again

Bowling Green, Ky. - Western Kentucky University’s Imagewest student interns continued their winning streak this past November at the Bowling Green Professional Marketing Association’s (PMA) Markie Awards.

Imagewest, the only student-run advertising and public relations agency in the nation located at Western Kentucky University, competed against 31 entries submitted from professional marketers in the Bowling Green area. Imagewest won two of the 10 award categories.

“The group of students that intern at Imagewest work hard to satisfy our clients and prepare themselves to be working professionals. I love seeing all of their hard work pay off,” said Heather Garcia, agency manager.

PMA created the Markie Awards to publicly recognize and reward exemplary work of marketers in the Bowling Green area. Imagewest has submitted entries and won awards since the agency opened in 2004. The agency has completed over 325 projects for 70 different clients.

“Imagewest is a unique opportunity for students to get real world experience before they graduate,” said Dr. Pam Johnson, director of the School of Journalism and Broadcasting. “We are very fortunate to have such an outstanding program available for students at WKU.”

The sixth annual Markie Awards banquet was held on November 21, 2006, at the Holiday Inn Plaza Hotel.

Imagewest won awards in the following categories:
1. Business Card - Paradise Point (Scottsville, Ky.)
2. Web site - WKU Leadership Studies (Bowling Green, Ky.)

Projects completed during the 2006 spring, summer and fall semesters were submitted for the competition.

Interns during the 2006 spring semester were Tiffani Arterberry, Summer Bolton, Courtney Burge, Billy Chambers, Kristy Garvey, Rebecca Griffith, Angela Mantlo,Whitney Saffel, Amie Simmons, Heidi VanZant and Tessa Wilkinson.

Interns from the 2006summer semester were Matt Abney, Summer Bolton, Stephen Finn, Jason Hapney, Brad Hoffman, Kelly Johnson, Amy Kaiser, Nikole Klarer, Katy Parrish and Tessa Wilkinson.

Interns during the 2006 fall semester were Melis Agaoglu, Mary Alexander, Summer Bolton, Elizabeth Brown, Jordan Daly, Jason Driver, Khadija Mahmood, KellyMcClain, Nikki Robins and Aaron Upton.

Interns for the 2007 spring semester include Summer Bolton (Bowling Green, Ky.), Savannah Bowles (Mount Hermon, Ky.), Julie Britnell (Harvest, Ala.), Elizabeth Brown (Louisville, Ky.), Phillip Couch (Brentwood, Tenn.), Ashley Fatheree (Woodlawn, Tenn.), Megan Lother (Ft. Thomas, Ky.), Kelly McClain (Frankfort, Ky.), Mandy Mullins (Louisville, Ky.), Derek Sears (Florence, S.C.), Stephanie Shaver (Lexington, Ky.) and Jena West (Russell Springs, Ky.).

Agency manager, Heather Garcia (Franklin, Ky.), helps direct students and coordinates Imagewest’s projects.

Imagewest is a student-run advertising and public relations agency that provides students with real-world
agency experience. Imagewest allows students to further develop their skills and enhance their portfolio giving
them a competitive edge as they enter the workforce. Imagewest operates year-round and offers a variety of
services such as graphic and web design, media relations and publicity, event planning, large scale printing,
consulting, strategic planning, conducting research including the use of an in-house focus group facility, and
much more.

Imagewest began in January 2004 and is located on Western Kentucky University’s campus in the Mass Media
and Technology Hall room 331. Any revenues that are generated will go directly back into the School of
Journalism and Broadcasting to cover expenses such as equipment, scholarships and educational travel. It is
part of WKU’s School of Journalism and Broadcasting’s Center for 21st Century Media Program of Distinction,
which is approved and funded by Kentucky’s Council on Post-Secondary Education Regional Excellence
Trust Fund.
