Bowling
Green, Ky. - Western Kentucky University forensic team members traveled to San Diego, Calif., and Murray, Ky., to take part in two tournaments the weekend of Feb. 2-3.
At Point Loma, the team swept the Four-Year sweepstakes, the individual events and debate sweepstakes, and the overall tournament sweepstakes. The University of the Pacific placed second in the Four-Year sweepstakes and Arizona State University was third. The University of the Pacific also placed second in individual events and debate sweepstakes, with Northern Arizona University taking third.
In Murray, WKU’s team of 13 placed first overall in the Alumni portion, with Illinois State University placing second and the University of Alabama placing third. In the Murray State University portion, WKU placed third overall behind Bradley University and the University of Alabama.
Results from the Point Loma/Southwest College Swing are as follows:
Saeed Jones, a junior from Lewisville, Texas, tournament champion in persuasive speaking, tournament champion in poetry interpretation, third in after-dinner speaking, third individual sweepstakes in the Southwest portion; individual sweepstakes champion, tournament champion in after-dinner speaking, tournament champion in impromptu speaking, tournament champion in persuasive speaking, second in poetry interpretation, quarterfinalist in JV parliamentary debate (with Barry Fields), 13th JV parliamentary debate speaker in the Point Loma portion.
Natalie Sintek, a junior from Eagan, Minn., tournament champion in programmed oral interpretation, second in informative speaking, third in poetry interpretation in the Southwest portion; tournament champion in informative speaking, tournament champion in poetry interpretation, fourth in individual sweepstakes in the Point Loma portion.
Kasey Gardner, a senior from Simi Valley, Calif., tournament champion in impromptu speaking, second in extemporaneous speaking in the Southwest portion; tournament champion in parliamentary debate (with Keyon Shokraie), second in Lincoln-Douglas debate, second parliamentary debate speaker in the Point Loma portion.
Joelle Perry, a senior from Florence, first parliamentary debate speaker, second in persuasive speaking, semifinalist in parliamentary debate (with Thomas Schally) in the Point Loma portion; top debate speaker, second in parliamentary debate (with Thomas Schally) in the Point Loma Round Robin.
Lauren Nelson, a sophomore from Wheaton, Ill., third in persuasive speaking, third in impromptu speaking, sixth in extemporaneous speaking in the Southwest portion; quarterfinalist in Lincoln-Douglas debate, double octofinalist in parliamentary debate (with Chad Meadows), 17th parliamentary debate speaker in the Point Loma portion.
Keyon Shokraie, a senior from Somis, Calif., tournament champion in extemporaneous speaking in the Southwest portion; tournament champion in parliamentary debate (with Kasey Gardner), quarterfinalist in Lincoln-Douglas debate, 10th parliamentary debate speaker in the Point Loma portion.
