WKU Forensic Team Members Win At Three Tournaments

Bowling Green, Ky. - Western Kentucky University forensic team members traveled to Oklahoma, Arizona and Colorado to take part in three tournaments the weekend of Feb. 9-10.

At Norman, Okla., the team of eight qualified several more students for the national tournament and took second place overall behind the University of Texas.

In Phoenix, Ariz., WKU qualified another team of eight in several events in preparation for the national tournament.

At the Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs, Colo., the debate team swept the debate championship as well as placing second overall.

Results from the Sweetheart Swing in Norman, Okla., are as follows:
Natalie Sintek, a junior from Eagan, Minn., tournament champion in programmed oral interpretation in the Oklahoma portion; tournament champion in programmed oral interpretation in the West Texas portion.

Benjamin Pyle, a junior from Harrisburg, Ill., tournament champion in duo interpretation (with Rachel Wigginton), third in dramatic interpretation, fourth in rhetorical criticism in the Oklahoma portion; tournament champion in duo interpretation (with Rachel Wigginton) in the West Texas portion.

Rachel Wigginton, a sophomore from Glendale, tournament champion in duo interpretation (with Ben Pyle), tournament champion in poetry interpretation, tournament champion in rhetorical criticism, individual sweepstakes champion in the Oklahoma portion;  tournament champion in duo interpretation (with Ben Pyle), tournament champion in rhetorical criticism, individual sweepstakes champion, third in informative speaking in the West Texas portion.

Cornelius Lee, a sophomore from Killeen, Texas, second in dramatic interpretation, third in prose interpretation, fourth in informative speaking in the Oklahoma portion;  tournament champion in prose interpretation, tournament champion in dramatic interpretation in the West Texas portion.

Benjamin Unanaowo, a junior from Union City, Calif., second in persuasive speaking, fifth in poetry interpretation in the Oklahoma portion;  tournament champion in persuasive speaking, second in poetry interpretation in the West Texas portion.

Ashley Litsey, a sophomore from Hodgenville, second in prose interpretation, second in programmed oral interpretation in the Oklahoma portion; third in programmed oral interpretation, fourth in prose interpretation in the West Texas portion.

J.D. VanSlyke, a sophomore from Wylie, Texas, third in informative speaking, fifth in prose interpretation in the Oklahoma portion; fourth in informative speaking in the West Texas portion.

Daniel Johnson, a freshman from Independence, Mo., fourth in after-dinner speaking in the Oklahoma portion; second in after-dinner speaking in the West Texas portion.

Results from the U.S. Air Force Academy are as follows:
Keyon Shokraie, a senior from Somis, Calif., tournament champion in extemporaneous speaking, second in impromptu speaking, third parliamentary debate speaker, quarterfinalist in parliamentary debate (with Kasey Gardner), octofinalist in Lincoln-Douglas debate.

Lauren Nelson, a sophomore from Wheaton, Ill., tournament champion in parliamentary debate (with Chad Meadows), second parliamentary debate speaker, semifinalist in impromptu speaking, octofinalist in Lincoln-Douglas debate, 10th Lincoln-Douglas debate speaker.

Joelle Perry, a senior from Florence, tournament champion in impromptu speaking, semifinalist in parliamentary debate (with Thomas Schally), fifth Lincoln-Douglas debate speaker, octofinalist in Lincoln-Douglas debate, seventh parliamentary debate speaker.

Chad Meadows, a junior from Owensboro, tournament champion in parliamentary debate (with Lauren Nelson), second in extemporaneous speaking, semifinalist in impromptu speaking.

Seth Peckham, a freshman from Alden, Kan., tournament champion in JV parliamentary debate (with Maggie Work), second in rhetorical criticism, second JV parliamentary debate speaker, fifth in informative speaking.

Joseph Allen, a sophomore from Boise, Idaho, first Lincoln-Douglas debate speaker, semifinalist in Lincoln-Douglas debate, octofinalist in parliamentary debate (with Rachel Mosley).

Maggie Work, a freshman from Evansville, Ind., tournament champion in JV parliamentary debate (with Seth Peckham).

Kasey Gardner, a senior from Simi Valley, Calif., semifinalist in Lincoln-Douglas debate, fourth in impromptu speaking, fourth Lincoln-Douglas debate speaker, fourth parliamentary debate speaker, quarterfinalist in parliamentary debate (with Keyon Shokraie).

Elizabeth Mullins, a freshman from Plymouth, Mass., second Lincoln-Douglas debate speaker, semifinalist in parliamentary debate (with Logan Parke).

Thomas Schally, a junior from Stillwater, Minn., semifinalist in parliamentary debate (with Joelle Perry), octofinalist in Lincoln-Douglas debate.

Logan Parke, a freshman from Little Rock, Ark., semifinalist in parliamentary debate (with Elizabeth Mullins), double octofinalist in Lincoln-Douglas debate.

Adam Heugel, a junior from Rosenburg, Texas, sixth in impromptu speaking, octofinalist in parliamentary debate (with Jessica Furgerson).

Rachel Mosley, a sophomore from Lake Tahoe, Calif., octofinalist in parliamentary debate (with Joseph Allen).

Jessica Furgerson, a freshman from San Antonio, Texas, octofinalist in parliamentary debate (with Adam Heugel).
Brian Bloss, a sophomore from Coppell, Texas, double octofinalist in Lincoln-Douglas debate.
