Bowling
Green, Ky. - Western Kentucky University and the Hilltopper Basketball Program will recognize an important group of donors tonight during the WKU-Florida Atlantic game. According to Dr. Wood Selig, WKU’s Director of Athletics, this group of donors has collectively given and pledged $1.4 million in current and deferred gifts.
These benefactors include:
Bob and Judy Armstrong of Bowling Green
Louis Berman of Bowling Green
Gary and Julie Bowman of Louisville
David Dickerson of Glasgow
Gerry and Janice Edds of Owensboro
Houchen’s Industries
Jones Builders
John and Linda Kelly of Bowling Green
Pan-Oston
Robert and Wilanna Ramsey of Bowling Green
Terry and Kathy Scariot of Bowling Green
Christiaan and Ann Marie Volkert of Bowling Green
“We are so fortunate to have such wonderful role models for private support of Hilltopper Basketball,” Selig said. “We all share a common goal of being nationally competitive and advancing in NCAA postseason tournament play. That is a difficult task in today’s world of intercollegiate athletics. In order for us to accomplish those sizable competitive goals and graduate our student-athletes with meaningful degrees, we absolutely must have the support of a cadre of donors who have literally bought into the program at the highest level and invested their personal resources in our future basketball success.”
WKU Head Coach Darrin Horn agreed. “The attribute that separates WKU Basketball from so many other programs throughout the country is the strong support we receive from fans and donors,” he explained. “We have high goals for WKU Basketball that, if they are to be achieved, need a vision and commitment that must extend beyond the immediate and help us sustain momentum to push our program forward in the years to come.”
According to Coach Horn, this vision, and the ever-growing competitiveness of college basketball, creates a need for significant private resources. “We are grateful to those that already share in our vision and have made recent gifts,” he said. “These private gifts not only contribute to our basketball success, but most importantly, they impact our student-athletes academically as we prepare them for the biggest game of all: life. We hope that these leaders in our vision will prompt others to make gifts as well as we work to create a great future for Hilltopper Basketball.”
Tonight’s game against Florida Atlantic begins at 7 p.m. in E.A. Diddle Arena.
