WKU Forensic Team Wins Ohio Tournament

Bowling Green, Ky. - Western Kentucky University forensic team members traveled to Columbus, Ohio, to take part in two tournaments the weekend of Dec. 1-2.

In Columbus, WKU was crowned overall sweepstakes champion, while Tennessee State University was second and Creighton University was third. The debate team closed out the semifinal round of open debate at the Ohio portion. In the Otterbein portion, the team advanced nine debaters to elimination rounds against 50 other debaters.

Results from the Ohio State/Otterbein Swing are as follows:


Natalie Sintek, a senior from Eagan, Minn., tournament champion in prose interpretation, tournament champion in poetry interpretation and fourth in dramatic interpretation in the Ohio portion; tournament champion in poetry interpretation and second in prose interpretation in the Otterbein portion.

Joele Denis, a junior from Hollywood, Fla., second in prose interpretation and fifth in duo interpretation (with Samantha Harrison) in the Ohio portion; tournament champion in communication analysis and tournament champion in duo interpretation (with Samantha Harrison) in the Otterbein portion.

Josh Ramsey, a sophomore from Fort Scott, Kan., tournament champion in Lincoln-Douglas debate and fourth Lincoln-Douglas debate speaker in the Ohio portion; third Lincoln-Douglas debate speaker and quarterfinalist in Lincoln-Douglas debate in the Otterbein portion.

Lauren Nelson, a junior from Wheaton, Ill., top Lincoln-Douglas debate speaker and semifinalist in Lincoln-Douglas debate in the Ohio portion; quarterfinalist in Lincoln-Douglas debate and 10th Lincoln-Douglas debate speaker in the Otterbein portion.

Rob Strobel, a freshman from Lexington, tournament champion in novice Lincoln-Douglas debate, third novice Lincoln-Douglas debate speaker and fifth in impromptu speaking in the Ohio portion.

Todd Rainey, a freshman from Indianapolis, second in novice Lincoln-Douglas debate and fifth in extemporaneous speaking in the Ohio portion; sixth in impromptu speaking in the Otterbein portion.

Thomas Schally, a junior from Stillwater, Minn., second in Lincoln-Douglas debate in the Ohio portion; second Lincoln-Douglas debate speaker and semifinalist in Lincoln-Douglas debate in the Otterbein portion.

Daniel Johnson, a sophomore from Independence, Mo., third in informative speaking in the Ohio portion; tournament champion in informative speaking, second in poetry interpretation and fourth in prose interpretation in the Otterbein portion.

Jerome Davis, a sophomore from Austell, Ga., second in informative speaking and fifth in dramatic interpretation in the Ohio portion; fourth in dramatic interpretation in the Otterbein portion.

Samantha Harrison, a sophomore from Carrollton, Texas, fifth in duo interpretation (with Joele Denis) in the Ohio portion; tournament champion in duo interpretation (with Joele Denis) in the Otterbein portion.

Joshua Harzman, a freshman from Salina, Kan., semifinalist in Lincoln-Douglas debate in the Ohio portion; octafinalist in Lincoln-Douglas debate and eighth Lincoln-Douglas debate speaker in the Otterbein portion.

Rachel Mosley, a junior from Lake Tahoe, Calif., second Lincoln-Douglas debate speaker and quarterfinalist in Lincoln-Douglas debate in the Ohio portion;

Elizabeth Mullins, a sophomore from Plymouth, Mass., second in Lincoln-Douglas debate and sixth Lincoln-Douglas debate speaker in the Otterbein portion.

Chad Meadows, a senior from Owensboro, third Lincoln-Douglas debate speaker and octafinalist in Lincoln-Douglas debate in the Ohio portion.

Sarah Spiker, a freshman from Snohomish, Wash., quarterfinalist in Lincoln-Douglas debate in the Ohio portion; octafinalist in Lincoln-Douglas debate in the Otterbein portion.

Kaleb Jessee, a sophomore from Garden City, Kan., octafinalist in Lincoln-Douglas debate and ninth Lincoln-Douglas debate speaker in the Otterbein portion.

Logan Parke, a sophomore from Little Rock, Ark., octafinalist in Lincoln-Douglas debate in the Ohio portion; octafinalist in Lincoln-Douglas debate in the Otterbein portion.

Jason Carey, a sophomore from Hutchinson, Kan., octafinalist in Lincoln-Douglas debate in the Otterbein portion.

Jessica Furgerson, a sophomore from San Antonio, Texas, fifth Lincoln-Douglas debate speaker in the Ohio portion.
