Bowling
Green, Ky. - About 125 students from five high schools participated in the fourth annual Health Occupations Students of America Pre-conference Competition at Western Kentucky University.
Students Webster County, Franklin-Simpson, Bowling Green, Breckinridge County and Butler County high schools and the WKU HOSA chapter participated in simulated competitions to improve their skills before the Kentucky
HOSA Conference and competitions in March in Louisville.
Participants in the Dec. 7 event received feedback from the judges to help prepare them for the state competition, according to Lucy Juett, director of the South Central Area Health Education Center.
Winners were:
Career Health Display: first, Kathleen Smith and Hillary Wade, Franklin-Simpson; second, Melanie Van Bibber and Cassie Pryor, Webster County; third, Rebecca Flippin and Katelyn Gray, Franklin-Simpson.
CPR: first, Jennifer Watts and Dallas Kirk, Breckinridge County; Chance Morehead and Heather Anderson, Franklin-Simpson; third, Melissa McGrew and Morgan Anderson, Butler County.
Medical Photography: first, Samantha Coots, Butler County; second, Dustin Thornton, Butler County; third, Shelby Milloy, Breckinridge County.
Medical Terminology: first, Ashton Fields, Butler County; second, Jessica Johnson, Bowling Green; third, Whitney Nash, Butler County.
Medical Math: first, Matthew Kirk, WKU; second, Carlos Sweeney, Bowling Green; third, Shelly Cobb, Webster County.
Prepared Speaking: first, Julia Critchelow, Breckinridge County; second, Misty Stone, Webster County; third, Jean Folz, Franklin-Simpson.
Extemporaneous Speaking: first, Jake Robinson, Webster County; second, Rachelle Donahoo, Bowling Green; third, Rachelle Vaught, Butler County.
Job Seeking Skills: first, Rebecca Mercier, Butler County; second, Katie Smith, Webster County; third, Brittany Daniel, Breckinridge County.
Extemporaneous Health Poster: first, Melena Farmer, Franklin-Simpson; second, Kristin Wright, Webster County; third, Sarah Frank, Breckinridge County.
Public Service Announcement: first, Casey Brown, Christine Thomas, Molly Carter, Amber Flippin and Adam Wilshire, Franklin-Simpson.
Judges included WKU students from ImageWest and the photojournalism program and staff from AHEC, Kentucky EMS Academy, WKU CPR Training Center, WKU Nursing Department and WKU Career Services.
