Green, Ky. - Western Kentucky University’s international reach will be on display again during its 162nd Commencement on Dec. 15.
WKU will confer degrees to more than 1,000 students, including 111 from 18 nations, in the ceremony that begins at 10 a.m. at Diddle Arena. If the webcast of WKU’s spring commencement is any indication, viewers around the globe will be watching. The May ceremony had viewers in Pakistan, India, China, Turkey, Japan and Iraq.
Streaming video of the ceremony will be available online at http://www.wkusports.tv/ thanks to a collaboration of the Registrar’s office, WKU Athletics and WKYU-PBS. The ceremony will be televised live on WKYU-PBS with a replay at 3:30 p.m. Dec. 17.
WKU will confer degrees to 1,071 students who are completing their programs this fall (81 associate’s, 778 baccalaureate, 211 master’s and one specialist). Five recipients of a cooperative doctoral degree between WKU and the University of Louisville also will be hooded at the ceremony.
About 700 students are expected to participate. President Gary Ransdell will deliver commencement remarks.
During the ceremony, WKU will recognize the Ogden Foundation Scholar, an award presented to one graduating baccalaureate degree senior who has demonstrated exceptional academic achievement and outstanding university and civic engagement. WKU also will recognize honor graduates and will commission four Army ROTC graduates as second lieutenants.
WKU’s commencement schedule includes the following events:
Friday, Dec. 14
6:30 p.m., Outstanding Black Graduates Recognition Ceremony at the Ivan Wilson Fine Arts Center’s Russell Miller Theatre.
Saturday, Dec. 15
8 a.m., School of Nursing BSN program convocation at Van Meter Hall.
10 a.m., Commencement at Diddle Arena.
1:30 p.m., Associate Degree Nursing Pinning Ceremony at Downing University Center Theater.
