WKU Police Act On Tip, Arrest Man On Charges Of Possession Of Child Pornography

Green, Ky. - Acting on a tip from a student, Western Kentucky University Police on Tuesday arrested a Morgantown man on child pornography charges.
WKU Police arrested Keith A. Hartman, 38, of Morgantown, in his room in Barnes Campbell Hall. He has been charged with possession of matter portraying a sexual performance by a minor and was lodged in the Warren County Regional Jail.
Officials in WKU’s Office of Housing and Residence Life received a tip from another WKU student after that student discovered files containing pornographic images while looking for music. The student was using peer-to-peer software to search the local network when he came across the images available for sharing from Hartman’s computer.
Officials from Housing and Residence Life, Information Technology and WKU Police investigated and once they identified the computer, obtained a search warrant for Hartman’s room. Police confiscated Hartman’s laptop computer and other items. The case was presented to the Commonwealth Attorney’s Office and the arrest warrant was issued.
