Green, Ky. - Two Western Kentucky University journalism faculty members will be honored next week by the National Association of Black Journalists for their efforts to increase the number of black journalists in newsrooms.
Robert Adams and Jim Highland will receive the group’s Journalism Educators of the Year Award on Aug. 10 in Las Vegas. For more than 20 years, Adams and Highland directed WKU’s Minority Journalism Workshop.
“The workshop has been a wonderful recruiting opportunity for WKU, the College Heights Herald and journalism,” said Adams, director of Student Publications and associate professor in WKU’s School of Journalism and Broadcasting.
Adams and Highland were nominated by Nikita Stewart, a 1994 WKU graduate and reporter at The Washington Post. Stewart participated in workshop as a student at Warren Central High School and has served as a workshop writing coach.
More than 4,000 journalists from across the country are expected to attend the NABJ’s 32nd Annual Convention Aug. 8-12 at Bally’s Hotel & Casino. For more information, visit www.nabj.org.
