WKU Kappa Delta Chapter Honored

August 06, 2007

Bowling Green, Ky. - The Delta Gamma chapter of Kappa Delta sorority at Western Kentucky University recently received the Merit Chapter Award at Kappa Delta’s National Convention.

The Merit award is an award of distinction given to the top Kappa Delta chapters in the nation. This award is based on outstanding scholastic achievement, leadership, philanthropic contribution, campus prestige and membership. Of the 130 active chapters of Kappa Delta, the WKU chapter was among the 13 to receive this recognition. Other chapters receiving the honor include those from the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill, Florida State University and Louisiana State University. The award is given at the National Convention that is held every two years. The WKU chapter also received the award in 2005.

WKU and Kappa Delta alumna Kim Flood Ryan currently serves as the Vice President of Collegians on the National Council of Kappa Delta. She announced the recipients of the award at the convention. Chapter President Tori Theiss of Fort Thomas accepted the award.

“It was such a memorable experience to be able to not only accept the award on behalf of my chapter, but to also be recognized by an alumna from our chapter who is currently serving in a national leadership position,” Theiss said. “Kappa Delta is such a strong organization nationally and to be ranked amongst the top chapters is a true honor.”

Other WKU alumnae and Kappa Delta members in attendance were Bev Furnish Humphrey, Angela Gardner, Kristan Abernathy and Sherry Egan Anderson.

The WKU chapter of Kappa Delta currently has 80 active members, several of which hold various campus leadership positions and honors such as Student Government Association president, NSCS president, Spirit Masters and Panhellenic president. Kappa Delta will be participating in formal sorority recruitment, beginning Aug. 21.
