Green, Ky. - The WKU ALIVE Center for Community Partnerships in conjunction with Western Kentucky University’s Department of Housing and Residence Life and M.A.S.T.E.R. Plan are gearing up to send first-year WKU students into the Bowling Green-Warren County area for Big Red’s Blitz Community Service Day from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Thursday (Aug. 23).
Agencies participating in the event include the Girl Scouts of Kentuckiana, Inc., the WKU Chapter of Habitat for Humanity, the Bowling Green International Festival, Inc., the Kentucky Library & Museum, Lost River Cave, Potter Children’s Home and Ministries, Riverview at Hobson Grove and the Salvation Army. Activities vary from helping construct a home, trash cleanup, preparing museum artifacts, as well as preparing activities for after-school programs.
Big Red’s Blitz Community Service Day will introduce first-year students participating in M.A.S.T.E.R. Plan to vital services in the community and encourage them to continue to volunteer for those agencies in need.
M.A.S.T.E.R. (Making Academic and Social Transitions Educationally Rewarding) Plan is a five-day program that helps first-year WKU students transition from home and high school to the university.
The WKU ALIVE Center links volunteers to agencies in the Bowling Green-Warren County area, as well as serving as an information clearing house for the 366 human service organizations in Bowling Green-Warren County.
