Kentucky Writers Conference Set For April 20

April 02, 2007

Bowling Green, Ky. - The partners of the Southern Kentucky Book Fest and Dollar General are proud to sponsor the Kentucky Writers Conference for the fourth year. This conference features many Kentucky writers and their work and a wide variety of writing genres. Sessions will be held on Friday, April 20, from 8:30 a.m. to 2:45 p.m.

The morning sessions will feature journalist Dianne Aprile, poet Jane Gentry, and writers Peggy Webb and Darnell Arnoult.  Two presenters have connections to the Iowa Writers’ Workshop:  memoirist Barbara Robinette Moss has taught at the Iowa Summer Writing Festival and fiction writer Jim Tomlinson won the 2006 Iowa Short Fiction Award.

The afternoon sessions begin at noon with a presentation by a Senior Editor of Writer’s Digest magazine.  Maria Schneider will provide valuable information to attendees from her viewpoint as a publishing industry insider.

Other afternoon sessions include songwriting by Matt Zarb and Bob Bradley, children’s writing by Helen Hemphill, and presentations by J. Brent Bill and Pat Carr.

"The conference offers a diverse selection of workshops to writers, including beginners,” says Diana McQuady, Co-Chair of the Kentucky Writers Conference. “We’ve expanded the session lengths this year to allow more time for writers to study with seasoned, published authors.”

All sessions will take place at Western Kentucky University’s Bowling Green Community College and will be open to high school students, WKU students, and the general public.  Admission and parking are free.

The Southern Kentucky Book Fest is a partnership project of Western Kentucky University Libraries, the Bowling Green Public Library, and Barnes and Noble Booksellers.
