Green, Ky. - The Kentucky Geographic Alliance (KGA) and the Kentucky Mesonet are sponsoring an Alliance Summer Geography Institute (ASGI) June 18-22 at Western Kentucky University.
A total of 20 K-12 science, math and social studies educators will be selected to participate in the ASGI. The workshop will focus on learning to use the Mesonet weather data to integrate into earth science, social studies and math curricula and on constructing standards-based lessons to integrate the Mesonet data.
These lessons will constitute each participant’s research package to be turned in at the end of the ASGI together with a presentation on the last day. Participants will be provided with a standardized format for the lesson plans. The mornings will consist of training and the afternoons and evenings will revolve around planning lessons and presentations. Educational field trips are also planned.
Stipends of $500 will be paid to the 20 participants chosen to attend the ASGI. For information and application form, contact the Kentucky Geographic Alliance at (270) 745-5978, send an email to kga@wku.edu or visit www.kga.org
