Green, Ky. - The Kentucky Music Educators Association (KMEA) is proud to announce the awarding of the 2007 College/University Teacher of the Year Award to Dr. John Cipolla. Dr. Cipolla is currently serving as the applied clarinet and saxophone professor and woodwind ensemble director for Western Kentucky University.
The Teacher of the Year Award is designed to honor those who exemplify teaching excellence in music education. KMEA annually recognizes one teacher at the elementary, middle school, high school and college/university levels for the Teacher of the Year Award. The recipient of the award at each level is selected by the KMEA awards committee from nominations submitted by each of the twelve KMEA districts.
Factors considered in the selection include the basic philosophy of music education of the nominee, their employment of creative or unusual teaching techniques in their music programs, professional and community involvement and contributions to each, and on the basis of letters of recommendation from the nominee’s superintendent, principal, fellow teachers and professional colleagues.
The award was presented at the 49th Annual In-Service Professional Development Conference in February.
KMEA is indeed proud of Dr. Cipollafor his dedication to music and to the mission of the organization which is to advance the cause of music education throughout the Commonwealth by encouraging the study and making of music by all of the population and by serving as a strong advocate for issues affecting the accomplishment of this mission.
KMEA, the Kentucky Music Educators Association, is an organization consisting of over 2,000 professional music educators at all levels from kindergarten to the university level who are dedicated to the cause of music education for Kentucky children. Members involved are in-service, pre-service and retired music educators. Associated with the MENC: The National Association For Music Education, KMEA serves as a voice for Kentucky's music educators.
