Green, Ky. -Western Kentucky University’s Department of Music has several upcoming concerts and special events by various groups.
Jazz Band concert April 21: The WKU Jazz Band, directed by Marshall Scott, will present an evening of Big Band Jazz Music at 7:30 p.m. April 21 at the Capitol Arts Center. Special guests will be the Greenwood High School Jazz Band. Admission is free.
Steelband concert April 22: The WKU Steelband, directed by Mark Berry, will perform at 3:30 p.m. April 22 at the Ivan Wilson Fine Arts Center Recital Hall. Admission is $4.
Orchestra, choral society, choir concert April 26: The Bowling Green Western Symphony Orchestra, Bowling Green Western Choral Society, WKU University Choirs and WKU Piano Trio (Sarah Boronow, cello; Angela Rex, violin; Donald Speer, piano) will present “The Glory of Symphony and Voices” at 7:30 p.m. April 26 at First Baptist Church. The orchestra is directed by William Scott; the choral society is directed by Paul Hondorp. For tickets, call 745-7681 or visit www.bgwso.org.
Symphonic Band concert April 29: The WKU Symphonic Band will perform in concert at 3 p.m. April 29 at Van Meter Auditorium. The concert will be conducted by Eric Smedley, with Graduate Conductor Billy Rich and Student Conductor Justin Combs. Admission is free.
Wind Ensemble concert May 3: The WKU Wind Ensemble will present its annual Scholarship Concert at 7:30 p.m. May 3 in Van Meter Auditorium. The concert will be conducted by Eric Smedley, Guest Conductor Sir David Whitwell, Graduate Conductor Matt Shores and Student Conductor Chris Westover. WKU student Troy Puckett will also be featured as a trumpet soloist. All proceeds from the concert will help to support WKU student music scholarships. Admission is $5.
