WKU Forensic Team Claims Overall Title At Purdue Tourney

Bowling Green, Ky. - Western Kentucky University’s Forensic Team placed first in individual events sweepstakes, debate sweepstakes and combined individual events and debate sweepstakes last weekend at the Purdue University “Boilermaker Invitational” in West Lafayette, Ind.

In the team’s first event of the season, WKU placed ahead of Creighton University and Texas Southern University.

Twenty-two members of the WKU team competed in the Sept. 15-17 tournament with the following students placing in the final rounds:

Saeed Jones, a junior from Lewisville, Texas, tournament champion in poetry interpretation, tournament champion in impromptu speaking, tournament champion in duo interpretation (with Rachel Wigginton), second in quadrathon, third in extemporaneous speaking.

Joelle Perry, a Florence senior, top speaker in parliamentary debate, second in extemporaneous speaking, quarterfinalist in Lincoln-Douglas debate, octofinalist in parliamentary debate (with Thomas Schally).

Kasey Gardner, a senior from Simi Valley, Calif., tournament champion in Lincoln-Douglas debate, fifth speaker in parliamentary debate, semifinalist in parliamentary debate (with Keyon Shokraie).

Chad Meadows, an Owensboro junior, second in parliamentary debate (with Lauren Nelson), fourth speaker in parliamentary debate, sixth in impromptu speaking, octofinalist in Lincoln-Douglas debate.

Lauren Nelson, a sophomore from Wheaton, Ill., second in parliamentary debate (with Chad Meadows), second speaker in parliamentary speaker.

Logan Scisco, a Danville junior, tournament champion in extemporaneous speaking.

Benjamin Pyle, a junior from Harrisburg, Ill., tournament champion in prose interpretation.

Rachel Wigginton, a Glendale sophomore, tournament champion in duo interpretation (with Saeed Jones).

Keyon Shokraie, a senior from Somis, Calif., third in impromptu speaking, third speaker in parliamentary debate, semifinalist in parliamentary debate (with Kasey Gardner).

Jessica Furgerson, a freshman from San Antonio, sixth in extemporaneous speaking, eighth in impromptu speaking, quarterfinalist in parliamentary debate (with Seth Peckham).

Nick Courtney, a sophomore from Morristown, Tenn., third in poetry interpretation, fourth in prose interpretation.

Micah Mason, a sophomore from Desoto, Texas, second in poetry interpretation.

Elizabeth Mullins, a freshman from Plymouth, Mass., sixth speaker in parliamentary debate, semifinalist in parliamentary debate (with Logan Parke).

Seth Peckham, a freshman from Alden, Kan., fifth in extemporaneous speaking, quarterfinalist in parliamentary debate (with Jessica Furgerson).

Logan Parke, a freshman from Little Rock, Ark., semifinalist in parliamentary debate (with Elizabeth Mullins), octofinalist in Lincoln-Douglas debate.

Thomas Schally, a freshman from Stillwater, Minn., semifinalist in Lincoln-Douglas debate, octofinalist in parliamentary debate (with Joelle Perry).

Joseph Allen, a freshman from Boise, Idaho, quarterfinalist in Lincoln-Douglas debate, quarterfinalist in parliamentary debate (with Rachel Mosley).

Rachel Mosley, a sophomore from Verde, Nev., quarterfinalist in Lincoln-Douglas debate, quarterfinalist in parliamentary debate (with Joseph Allen).

Brian Bloss, a sophomore from Coppell, Texas, octofinalist in Lincoln-Douglas debate.
