WKU Nursing Students Volunteer For Worthy Cause
September 21, 2006
Bowling
Green, Ky.
- Four Western Kentucky University nursing students volunteered to help with Lil’ Angels Attic on Sept. 8-9 as their KANS (Kentucky Association of Nursing Students) activity.
Micah Wilkins, a Glasgow junior, Devon Durall, a Greenville junior, Jennifer Cates, a Madisonville senior, and Lee Ann Crush, a Louisville junior, assisted at the Lil’ Angels Attic, a children’s consignment sale and ministry of Broadway United Methodist Church that raises money for organizations that serve children and families in the Bowling Green area.
At the sale, 70 percent of the proceeds goes to the sellers and 30 percent goes to LAA to help support organizations such as BRASS, Family Enrichment Center, Child Advocacy Center, CASA, Girls Inc., Big Brothers Big Sisters, Upward Sports and New Beginnings Therapeutic Riding. This fall, total sales were almost $87,000, which means that about $26,000 will be donated to support these organizations.
More than 300 volunteers are needed to make the sale happen, so the church was thankful to the WKU students who volunteered. The volunteerism of nursing students demonstrates a commitment to the improvement of the quality of life for the children in our community.
