Chinese Educators Visit WKU As Part Of Exchange Program

- Four faculty members from China’s Chongqing Technology and Business University are wrapping up a visit to Western Kentucky University.
Faculty members from WKU and CTBU have participated in an exchange partnership for about four years.
Dr. Lang Huang, Dr. Enke Wang, Dr. Minglun Yang and Dr. Xinghou Yu from CTBU have spent two weeks at WKU and will leave Bowling Green on Sept. 12. Dr. Wang presented an informative talk on “A Comparison of Chinese and American Cultures” to students and faculty in the College of Education and Behavioral Sciences on Sept. 6. During their monthlong stay in the United States, the Chinese delegation also plans to visit New York, Washington, San Francisco and Los Angeles.
Five WKU faculty members -- Kathleen Matthew and Alice Mikovch, Curriculum and Instruction; Tingying Zeng, Chemistry; Barry Kaufkins, Folk Studies, Glasgow Campus, Kathryn Abbott, History -- visited the Chinese university during the summer.
The WKU delegation made presentations to faculty and students at CTBU, attended classes and met with faculty, students and administrators. They also visited sites such as the Forbidden City, Summer Palace, Ming Tombs, Great Wall in Beijing; the Terracotta Warriors in Xian; The Carved Wall in Chongqing and many Buddhist shrines.
Students from both schools also have participated in the exchange program. Three CTBU students visited WKU in spring of 2005 and two more are here this fall. Several WKU students visited CTBU last summer and more students will visit in the summer of 2007.
