1,170 Pins Handed Out At WKU's Freshman Assembly

- More than 1,100 members of Western Kentucky University’s Class of 2010 participated in Tuesday evening’s Freshman Assembly Pinning Ceremony.
In three years, participation in the event has grown from 500 in 2004 to 725 in 2005 to 1,170 in 2006. This year’s participants received Centennial-themed lapel pins.
The Freshman Assembly brings together the incoming class of WKU students to hear the message of student engagement from university leadership, other students and community leaders. Tuesday’s speakers included President Gary Ransdell; Provost Barbara Burch; Dr. Luther Hughes, associate vice president for Enrollment Management; Dr. David Lee, chair of WKU’s Centennial Committee; and SGA President Rob Watkins.
The event also included music by Go Aberdeen and a fireworks display. First-year students also could use their student ID cards to receive a 128MB flash drives, which 1,075 did.
