WKU Dean To Run Marathon To Raise
Funds For College
October 23, 2006
Bowling
Green, Ky.
- When Dr. John Bonaguro, Dean of the College of Health and Human
Services (CHHS) at Western Kentucky University, runs his next marathon,
he’ll be running to support excellence. He plans to run the New Las
Vegas Marathon on Dec. 10 with the goal of raising $10,000 in pledges
from supporters for the CHHS Fund for Excellence.
The CHHS Fund for Excellence is the College’s development fund that
supplements its regular operating budget. The CHHS Fund for Excellence
provides additional resources to students, faculty and staff for activities
that include diverse opportunities, including professional and research
opportunities, social and leadership development, technological support
and enhancements, alumni awards and educational opportunities.
“This is my 15th marathon but the first time running to raise money,”
Dr. Bonaguro said. “I feel confident we’ll reach our goal, and the funds
will go a long way to help our faculty and students.”
The Las Vegas Marathon is an annual event. According to the Las Vegas
Sun: “For the last two decades of its 39-year history, the race has
been run in January on a point-to-point course from the community of
Jean to Las Vegas on the old Los Angeles Highway. For its 40th year,
it'll begin at 6 a.m. near the Mandalay Bay hotel-casino, sending runners
past neon marquees of resort hotels before looping through the city
back to the start-finish line.”
No funds from the University or the College of Health of Human Services
will be used for Dr. Bonaguro’s travel expenses. He is paying for his
own expenses as part of his personal contributions to CHHS.
