WKU Set To Begin Construction Of Health Services Building

October 09, 2006

Bowling Green, Ky. -Western Kentucky University is set to begin construction on a $5 million health servicesmap building.

Construction fencing will go up on Thursday, Oct. 12, around the site, which is the current Tate Page parking lot. The single story building includes more than 19,000 square feet for WKU Health Services. It will house a business/administrative area, a classroom, exam rooms, an x-ray area and other specialized care areas. The expected completion date is November 2007.

Dr. Allen Redden, medical director for WKU Health Services, said he’s excited about the new center. “We’ll have state-of-the-art electronic medical records, digital x-ray and full lab services,” he said. “We’ve been closely involved in the design and layout of the building from the beginning, allowing us to ensure that visits go smoothly from check-in to check-out.”

He added that having the center located near the Preston Health and Activities Center will “serve to highlight the health and wellness that we’re trying to promote. We’ve striven to create a healing and wellness environment that should have a positive impact on students, faculty and staff alike.”

The location will also mean changes in parking. The Regents Avenue Premium, Tate Page Premium and Tate Page Housing lots will close at midnight Wednesday, Oct. 11. Several projects were recently completed to help offset the lost spaces from the Tate Page lot: the University Boulevard housing lot that opened in January, a reconfiguration of the Bemis/Barnes parking lot this summer, expansion of the Mimosa lot and the addition of commuter parking in the Park Street lot.

Disability parking has been moved to the Academic Complex Service Drive. A parking map is available at www.wku.edu/transportation.
The project architect is BSA Lifestructures of Indianapolis. The general contractor is EH Construction of Brooks, Ky.
