WKU Forensic Team Wins Awards In Debate Fiesta

Bowling Green, Ky. - Western Kentucky University forensic team members hosted the WKU Debate Fiesta Oct. 13-15.

The WKU debate team also entered some debaters, winning both top seats in parliamentary debate and receiving eight of the tournament’s speaker awards.  McKendree College won the Lincoln-Douglas debate sweepstakes, and Cedarville University took the parliamentary debate sweepstakes. WKU won the overall sweepstakes award
as well as second in Lincoln-Douglas sweepstakes.

Results from the WKU Debate Fiesta are as follows:


Joelle Perry, a senior from Florence, top speaker in parliamentary debate, tournament champion in parliamentary debate (with Thomas Schally).

Thomas Schally, a junior from Stillwater, Minn., tournament champion in parliamentary debate (with Joelle Perry), sixth speaker in parliamentary debate.

Elizabeth Mullins, a freshman from Plymouth, Mass., second in Lincoln-Douglas debate, ninth speaker in Lincoln-

Douglas debate, octofinalist in parliamentary debate (with Logan Parke).

Adam Heugel, a junior from Rosenburg, Texas, semifinalist in Lincoln-Douglas debate, seventh speaker in Lincoln-

Chad Meadows, a junior from Owensboro, semifinalist in parliamentary debate (with Brian Bloss).

Brian Bloss, a sophomore from Coppell, Texas, semifinalist in parliamentary debate (with Chad Meadows).

Joseph Allen, a sophomore from Boise, Idaho, fourth speaker in parliamentary debate, octofinalist in parliamentary debate (with Rachel Mosley).

Keyon Shokraie, a senior from Somis, Calif., fifth speaker in parliamentary debate, octofinalist in parliamentary debate (with Kasey Gardner).

Barry Fields, a senior from Bowling Green, ninth speaker in parliamentary debate.

Jessica Furgerson, a freshman from San Antonio, octofinalist in parliamentary debate (with Seth Peckham).

Seth Peckham, a freshman from Alden, Kan., octofinalist in parliamentary debate (with Jessica Furgerson).

Rachel Mosley, a sophomore from Verde, Nev., octofinalist in parliamentary debate (with Joseph Allen).
