WKU Announces Finalists In Jim Wayne Miller Contest

- The Creative Writing Committee at Western Kentucky University has announced the 10 finalists in the Jim Wayne Miller Writing Contest.
The top three winners will be named at the Jim Wayne Miller Celebration of Writing at 2 p.m. Oct. 29, Garrett Conference Center 103. The final judging will be by author and former WKU English faculty member Pat Carr, who will also be reading from her work that day.
The finalists, who are all WKU students, are: Emmett Barton, Kimberly Reynolds and Mike Sobiech, all of Bowling Green; Bobby Deignan, Charles Jacobs, Dustin Meyer and Brook Shafar, all of Louisville; Laura Huff of Gamaliel; Travis Morris of Owensboro; and Bethany Pastorial of Nashville.
Miller was a long-time WKU faculty member and well-known poet, fiction writer and essayist. He was a professor of German from 1963 until his death in l996.
