Froglogger Website Selected As Supplement To Brittanica
November 10, 2006
Bowling Green , Ky.
- “Frogs and Toads of Kentucky,” a website hosted by Western Kentucky University’s Center for Biodiversity Studies, has been selected as an online resource by Encyclopaedia Brittanica.
The WKU site (http://bioweb.wku.edu/froglogger) was selected by a Brittanica editorial group that identifies and screens other websites to supplement its content. The site includes information, photos and sounds for the 20 species of frogs and toads that inhabit Kentucky. The approved “iGuide sites” are presented as recommended resources for online readers at http://www.britannica.com/
“Their reason for doing this is that they realize that other sites, like ours, also offer high quality content and they want to share that with their members,” said Dr. Kenneth Crawford, associate professor of biology. “When one of their members searches on a topic relevant to our site, they not only present Britannica information, but also provide a link to our site for that topic.”
The Center for Biodiversity Studies (http://biodiversity.wku.edu/), Dr. Crawford, associate professor of biology Mike Stokes and student employee Jeff Warwick collaborated to create the site.
