WKU Forensics Team Wins At Three Tournaments

Bowling Green, Ky. - Western Kentucky University forensic team members won three tournaments Nov. 2-5, including the L.E. Norton Bradley Invitational, often considered a litmus test for national speech and debate tournaments.

The L.E. Norton Bradley Invitational, held at Peoria, Ill., is the year’s largest tournament aside from national events and marks a major milestone in the year. WKU was crowned sweepstakes champion with a point lead of more than twice that of its next competition. George Mason University took second place and Arizona State University was third.

WKU sent just four team members to the St. Anselm Debate Tournament in Manchester, N.H., and won the sweepstakes championship. St. Anselm College was second followed by Central Michigan University in third.

Equally impressive was the small team of seven who won at the John G. Fee Invitational in Berea. WKU won not only the individual events sweepstakes championship, but also the second place sweepstakes in debate.

Saeed Jones, a junior from Lewisville, Texas, tournament champion in impromptu speaking, second in pentathlon, second in duo interpretation, fifth in after-dinner speaking, sixth in poetry interpretation, seventh in persuasive speaking.
Natalie Sintek, a junior from Eagan, Minn., tournament champion in duo interpretation (with Ben Pyle), second in prose interpretation, third in after-dinner speaking, fourth in dramatic interpretation, fifth in persuasive speaking.
Benjamin Pyle, a junior from Harrisburg, Ill., tournament champion in duo interpretation (with Natalie Sintek), fourth in programmed oral interpretation, sixth in prose interpretation.
Drew Horner, a freshman from Morristown, Tenn., tournament champion in novice informative speaking, sixth in novice persuasive speaking.
Lydia Nelson, a senior from Carver, Mass., tournament champion in prose interpretation, semifinalist in after-dinner speaking, semifinalist in impromptu speaking.
Seth Peckham, a freshman from Alden, Kan., tournament champion in novice extemporaneous speaking.
Katie Nedvidek, a freshman from Danville, tournament champion in novice after-dinner speaking.
Joelle Perry, a senior from Florence, second in extemporaneous speaking, third in impromptu speaking.
Jerome Davis, a freshman from Austell, Ga., second in novice prose interpretation, third in duo interpretation (with Benjamin Unanaowo).
Jessica Furgerson, a freshman from San Antonio, third in novice informative speaking, fourth in novice impromptu speaking, sixth in novice extemporaneous speaking.
Benjamin Unanaowo, a junior from Union City, Calif., third in duo interpretation (with Jerome Davis), fourth in poetry interpretation.
Samantha Harrison, a freshman from Carrollton, Texas, third novice after-dinner speaking, sixth in novice poetry interpretation.
Rachel Wigginton, a sophomore from Glendale, second in duo interpretation (with Saeed Jones).
Nick Courtney, a sophomore from Morristown, Tenn., second in persuasive speaking.
Adam Swanson, a freshman from Rosemount, Minn., second in novice informative speaking.
Daniel Johnson, a freshman from Independence, Mo., third in novice dramatic interpretation.
Jeffrey Boggess, a freshman from Hayward, Calif., fourth in novice poetry interpretation.
Kevin Cheairs, a freshman from Bellevue, Neb., fourth in novice prose interpretation.
Stephanie Youroukos, a senior from Harrisburg, Ill., fifth in poetry interpretation.
Lauren Nelson, a sophomore from Wheaton, Ill., semifinalist in impromptu speaking.
Chad Meadows, a junior from Owensboro, semifinalist in impromptu speaking.
Maggie Waid, a junior from Symsonia, semifinalist in poetry interpretation.
Micah Mason, a sophomore from Desoto, Texas, semi-finalist in prose interpretation.

Joseph Allen, a sophomore from Boise, Idaho, top speaker in parliamentary debate, tournament champion in Lincoln-Douglas debate, tournament champion in parliamentary debate (with Rachel Mosley), third speaker in Lincoln-Douglas debate.

Rachel Mosley, a sophomore from Verde, Nev., tournament champion in parliamentary debate (with Joseph Allen), second speaker in Lincoln-Douglas debate, fourth speaker in parliamentary debate, semifinalist in Lincoln-Douglas debate.

Logan Parke, a freshman from Little Rock, Ark., second in parliamentary debate (with Elizabeth Mullins), third speaker in parliamentary debate, fifth speaker in Lincoln-Douglas debate.

Elizabeth Mullins, a freshman from Plymouth, Mass., second speaker in parliamentary debate, second in parliamentary debate (with Logan Parke).

Adam Heugel, a junior from Rosenburg, Texas, tournament champion in extemporaneous speaking.

Lauren Fibel, a freshman from Lexington, fourth in informative speaking, fourth in rhetorical criticism, fifth in impromptu speaking.
