May 03 , 2006
Bowling
Green, Ky.
- Construction projects around Western Kentucky University will cause some traffic changes this summer.
Beginning May 8, a portion of the Center Street gravel commuter parking lot will be closed to accommodate the 14th Street realignment project. Students should access the lot from Kentucky Street. Additional commuter parking is available at the Park Street lot off Chestnut Street.
Beginning May 22, College Heights Boulevard will be closed from the Van Meter Overlook to Alumni Drive to realign the road. Two-way traffic will provide access to the Wetherby Lot and Alumni Drive on the lower section of College Heights Boulevard between University Boulevard and Alumni Drive. Soon, the section of College Heights Boulevard between College Street and State Street will be converted to two way traffic as well.
The section of 14th Street between Center and Kentucky streets will be permanently closed to through traffic beginning May 22. Faculty and staff utilizing the Felts Lot at the intersection of 14th and Kentucky streets should access the lot from Kentucky Street.
The intersection of Center and 14th streets will be affected by these projects later in the summer. Expect traffic delays in these areas for the duration of the projects. Both projects are scheduled for completion before the beginning of school in the fall. A map of the affected areas is available at the Parking and Transportation web site, www.wku.edu/transportation.
