Bowling Green, Ky. - For the 25th year, Western Kentucky University will host the National Muzzle Loading Rifle Association (NMLRA) Gunsmithing Workshop and Seminar May 31-June 9.

The NMLRA classes are offered in three-day, six-day and nine-day sessions as students learn gun making skills, engraving and carving techniques, selecting and using hand tools, and more.

Dr. Terry Leeper, head of WKU’s Department of Architectural and Manufacturing Sciences, is a gunsmith and developed the workshop to bring internationally known gunsmiths and students together to preserve the art and craft of the trade.

This year’s instructors include Wallace Gusler and Gary Brumfield, former gunsmiths at Colonial Williamsburg in Virginia, along with gun makers Jack Brooks, Mark Silver, Jim Chambers, Ron Ehlert, and Hershel and John House.

The workshop and seminar includes a picnic and informal shoot on June 3 at Dr. Leeper’s farm. A 25th anniversary T-shirt and lapel pin have been designed for this year’s event.

The three-day classes begin at 1 p.m. May 31 and end at noon June 3. The six-day classes begin at 7 a.m. June 4 and end June 9. The nine-day classes begin at 1 p.m. May 31 and end June 9. The NMLRA’s 2006 Spring National Shoot begins June 10 in Friendship, Ind.
