Bowling Green, Ky. - Two high school participants in Western Kentucky University’s Upward Bound program qualified for Kentucky’s 2006 All-Star Scholars Bowl team at the annual Scholars Bowl competition March 4 at the University of Louisville.
Justin Thurman, a senior at Logan County High School, and Bradley Jones, a senior at Butler County High School, placed first and third in the overall state competition.
Thirty-two students from various Upward Bound programs throughout the state competed for one of the six spots on the All-Star Team. Tabatha McMillan of Hart County High School and Nick Viers of Logan County High School also participated in the competition as representatives from WKU’s Upward Bound.
The two qualifying students from WKU, along with four other high school students, will represent Kentucky at the Southeastern Regional Scholars Bowl competition April 29 in Atlanta. This competition is sponsored by the Southeastern Association of Educational Opportunities Programs Personnel.
Other members of Kentucky’s 2006 All-Star Scholars Bowl Team include the following Upward Bound participants: Jareth Embrey, Murray State University; Amy Hall, Morehead State University; Josh Sparks, Morehead State University; and Thomas Packer, University of Louisville.
The six members of the All-Star Team were recognized March 4 at Kentucky’s TRiO Day Celebration in Louisville. This event was sponsored by Kentucky’s Association of Opportunities Programs Personnel.
