Attend Conference

- Several faculty members and students from Western Kentucky University’s Department of Public Health attended the 58th annual conference of the Kentucky Public Health Association last week in Louisvllle.
WKU students and faculty presented three abstracts and four posters at the conference March 27-30 at the Executive West. Dr. Cecilia Watkins, faculty sponsor of the WKU student chapter of KPHA, Dr. Marilyn Gardner and Dr. David Dunn represented the department at the meeting. Dr. John Bonaguro, dean of WKU’s College of Health and Human Services, also attended.
Poster presentations included the following:
Nelson A. Atehortua, “Nutrition and Exercise Habits Among High School Students, A Cross-Sectional Study in South-Central Kentucky”; Carrie Halcomb, Crissy Hodges and Jagdish Khubchandani, “Worker’s Perception of Worksite Factors Influencing Obesity”; Smit Chauhan and Jagdish Khubchandani, “The Science of Immunization as a Part of Public Health”; and Lakshminarayana Chekuri and Jagdish Khubchandani, “Consumer-Directed Health Insurance and the Worksite: ATwo-Year Review/Are the Savings Real?”
Abstracts presented included the following:

Atehortua with Dr. Marilyn Gardner, “Weight Changes in a Cohort of South-Central Kentucky Students”; Atehortua with Dr. Cecilia Watkins, “Minority Population Health Needs Assessment in South Central Kentucky”; and Amar Kanekar with Dr. Marilyn Gardner, “All Sex and No Condoms Make Jack and Jill ‘Risky’.”
Lee Brown, director of Kentucky Emergency Medical Services Academy at WKU, made a presentation on “EMS Education for the Future NOW!”
