Bowling Green, Ky. - Western Kentucky University’s Public Radio and the Law Firm of Harned, Bachert and Denton announce the winners of the 11th Annual Classical Music Poetry Contest. 

The contest offered students in grades seven though 12 a chance to participate in an interdisciplinary project integrating classical music and creative writing.  All middle and high school students in the listening area were invited to enter by writing a poem inspired by one of two pieces of classical music.  The musical selections were featured throughout April on Western’s Public Radio.

Winners in the seventh and eighth grade were: first place, Julienne Moore, a home schooled student from Elizabethtown, and second place, Sarah Fox, a student at Russellville Middle School.  Winners in the ninth through 12th grade were: first place, Paul Smith, a student at Green County High School, and second place, Cory Keltner, also a student at Green County High School. 

The contest is held each April, which is Classical Music Month.  Winning poems will be and published in the monthly program guide Choice.  First and second place winners are chosen in two grade categories and receive $200 or $100 respectively in savings bonds. 

This is the 11th year of the contest and is sponsored by the Law Firm of Harned, Bachert and Denton of Bowling Green.  There were more than 150 entries in this year’s contest from all across Kentucky.
