7 Biology Students Receive Summer Research Fellowships

- Seven undergraduate students from Western Kentucky University’s Department of Biology have been accepted into summer research programs.
Natalia Barahona of Bowling Green, Jillian Krajewski of Shepherdsville, Chris Pendleton of Shepherdsville, David Tuck of Alexandria, Va., and Molly Volz of Erlanger will participate in the Kentucky Biomedical Research Infrastructure Network (KBRIN) summer research program. The KBRIN summer program is a genomics-based research and/or bioinformatics experience at either the University of Louisville or the University of Kentucky.
Students are mentored by faculty who are actively engaged in biomedical research. Priority is given to students entering their sophomore or junior years and considering careers in biomedical research.
Two other WKU students have been awarded highly competitive summer research fellowships. Deanna McCadney of Detroit will spend her summer in research in marine science at the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institute in Woods Hole, Mass. Courtney Miles of Sanders will participate in research at the Mayo Clinic in Scottsdale, Ariz.
