Bowling Green, Ky. - Western Kentucky University students will reap the benefits of a $1.2 million confidential donation for years to come.

According to Tom Hiles, WKU’s vice president for Institutional Advancement, a donor who wishes to remain confidential has made a $1.2 million estate commitment to WKU. Upon the donor’s death, these funds will be used to provide scholarship funds in support of deserving students.

"WKU’s goal to be a leading American university with international reach depends on increasing commitments from individuals in the private sector who share the University’s vision for the future,” said WKU President Gary Ransdell. “WKU is engaged in a strong competition with its peer institutions to recruit the nation’s top scholars. We are committed to providing endowment funds for competitive student scholarships, fellowships, and awards to recognize the academic achievements of the best and brightest applicants.”

"This gift is a wonderful example of selfless philanthropy,” Hiles said. “The donor does not seek recognition and will never know the students who will benefit from this gift. We are very grateful.”
