 The WKU squad swept all other competitors in the state with a more than 500-point margin and earned 12 state individual titles along the way. WKU placed first in overall team sweepstakes with 642.5 points followed by University of the Cumberlands (130.5) and Berea College (119). In large school sweepstakes, WKU placed first with 427.5 sweepstakes points followed by Murray State University (17.5) and Morehead State University (16.5). Saeed Jones, a sophomore from Lewisville, Texas, captured the pentathlon award for the competitor with the highest point total in five or more events. Chris Brasfield of Bowling Green received the Harlan Hamm Award, which is presented to a deserving senior and voted upon by KFA member coaches. Director of Forensics Judy Woodring was elected the incoming KFA President. Barry Fields of Bowling Green was selected as the incoming student president. Woodring was pleased with both the team’s poise and performance. “Our forensics students are fine ambassadors for the university and much deserving of being named the best in the state,” she said. Keyon Shokraie, a junior from Somis, Calif., state champion in parliamentary debate (with partner Kasey Gardner), top speaker in parliamentary debate, third in extemporaneous speaking, fourth in impromptu speaking. Ashley Litsey, a Hodgenville freshman, state champion in duo interpretation (with partner Saeed Jones), state champion in prose interpretation. Ryan Howell, a senior from Plymouth, Ind., state champion in informative speaking, second in duo interpretation (with partner Lydia Nelson), second in pentathlon, third in poetry interpretation, fifth in programmed oral interpretation, sixth in dramatic interpretation. Natalie Sintek, a sophomore from Eagan, Minn., state champion in programmed oral interpretation, second in after dinner speaking, third in dramatic interpretation, sixth in informative speaking. Ryan Brown, a Morehead freshman, state champion in persuasive speaking, third in poetry interpretation, fourth in duo interpretation (with partner Maria Wallace), fifth in prose interpretation. Nicole Hawk, an Upton senior, state champion in extemporaneous speaking, semifinalist in parliamentary debate (with partner Barry Fields), fifth in impromptu speaking. Kasey Gardner, a junior from Simi Valley, Calif., state champion in parliamentary debate (with partner Keyon Shokraie), fourth in extemporaneous speaking, sixth speaker in parliamentary debate. Beth Berger, a Lexington sophomore, state champion in communication analysis, second informative speaking.
