Bowling Green, Ky. - Dr. Paul Slocumb, co-author with Ruby Payne of “Removing the Mask: Giftedness in Poverty” and author of “Hear Our Cry: Boys in Crisis,” will present workshops Feb. 20, 21 and 22 at Western Kentucky University’s Carroll Knicely Conference Center.
Through a generous gift to the College of Education and Behavioral Sciences, this workshop is free and open to the public. The first 50 to register for the Tuesday and Wednesday workshops will receive free books.
The Feb. 20 session will be devoted to “A Framework for Understanding Poverty,” a book written by Slocumb’s colleague Ruby Payne, that addresses such issues as key points in understanding poverty, hidden rules and resources and case studies.
On Feb. 21, the discussion continues with a focus on gifted children: “Identifying Gifted Students from Poverty.” The series ends on Feb. 22 with “Hear Our Cry: Boys in Crisis,” a workshop devoted to the reasoning behind male behavior in schools and issues facing boys.
