Bowling Green, Ky. - Nine Western Kentucky University students are competing to become the 2006 Coming Home King.
The winner will be crowned during Coming Home activities Saturday at Diddle Arena.
This year’s king candidates include:
Robert Scott Ashby, a senior political science major from Louisville. He is the son of Wayne and Denise Ashby and is sponsored by Phi Sigma Pi.
Benjamin W. Brewster, a junior broadcasting and mathematics major from Louisville. He is the son of Greg and Janet Brewster and is sponsored by Baptist Student Union.
Patrick Buchanan, a junior broadcast news major from Lexington. He is the son of Betty Morton and is sponsored by Spirit Masters.
Walker Hale, a junior advertising major from Hendersonville, Tenn. He is the son of Jeff and Mary Lou Hale and is sponsored by Sigma Phi Epsilon.
Matthew Landon Keown, a senior agriculture and economics major from Smiths Grove. He is the son of Matt and Lisa Keown and is sponsored by Block and Bridle.
Michael Lee Meredith, a junior business management major from Brownsville. He is the son of Jerry and Peggy Meredith and is sponsored by Alpha Gamma Delta.
Bryan Russell Phillips, a senior computer science major from Thompson Station, Tenn. He is the son of Carol and Russell Phillips and is sponsored by Phi Mu.
Benjamin Daniel Redmon, a sophomore biology major from Ekron. He is the son of Danny and Teresa Redmon and is sponsored by Kappa Sigma and Kappa Delta.
Tyler Aaron Seymour, a junior turfgrass management major from Franklin, Tenn. He is the son of Randy and Patricia Seymour and is sponsored by Alpha Omicron Pi.
Saturday’s Coming Home activities begin at 2:30 p.m. with March the Hill to commemorate WKU’s February 1911 move up College Street to the Hill. President Gary Ransdell will lead the march from the Kentucky Library and Museum down College Heights Boulevard to Diddle Arena.
Coming Home will feature a basketball doubleheader with the Lady Toppers vs. Middle Tennessee at 3:30 p.m. and the Hilltoppers vs. Florida International at 7 p.m. and will include special recognition of six teams -- the 1936 Hilltopper KIAC champions, 1966 Hilltopper OVC champions, 1971 Hilltopper Final Four team, 1984-85 and 1985-86 Lady Topper Final Four teams and 1991 Lady Topper NCAA Sweet Sixteen team.
Between games, all alumni, fans, friends and students are invited to Diddle Arena’s Hall of Champions to meet former Hilltoppers and Lady Toppers.
