Green, Ky. - Western Kentucky University forensic team members traveled to Columbus, Ohio, to take part in two tournaments the weekend of Dec. 2-3.
In Columbus, WKU was crowned overall sweepstakes champion with a point lead of over twice that of its next competition, Illinois State University, which took second place.

Joelle Perry, a senior from Florence, first debate speaker, tournament co-champion in Lincoln-Douglas debate, tournament champion in extemporaneous speaking and semifinalist in impromptu speaking in the Ohio State portion; tournament champion in impromptu speaking, third speaker in Lincoln-Douglas debate and octofinalist in Lincoln-Douglas debate in the Otterbein portion.
Natalie Sintek, a junior from Eagan, Minn., tournament champion in after-dinner speaking, tournament champion in poetry interpretation and tournament champion in dramatic interpretation in the Ohio State portion; tournament champion in after-dinner speaking and tournament champion in poetry interpretation in the Otterbein portion.
Lauren Nelson, a sophomore from Wheaton, Ill., tournament champion in persuasive speaking, second in pentathalon, seventh in extemporaneous speaking and semifinalist in impromptu speaking in the Ohio State portion; pentathalon champion, tournament champion in persuasive speaking, third in impromptu speaking and third in prose interpretation in the Otterbein portion.
Seth Peckham, a freshman from Alden, Kan., top speaker in novice Lincoln-Douglas debate and tournament champion in novice Lincoln-Douglas debate in the Ohio State portion; top speaker in novice Lincoln-Douglas debate, tournament champion in extemporaneous speaking and quarterfinalist in novice Lincoln-Douglas debate in the Otterbein portion.
Barry Fields, a senior from Bowling Green, tournament champion in informative speaking in the Ohio State portion; tournament champion in informative speaking, tournament champion in rhetorical criticism and fifth in extemporaneous speaking in the Otterbein portion.
