WKU Forensic Team Wins In Ohio Tournaments

Bowling Green, Ky. - Western Kentucky University forensic team members traveled to Columbus, Ohio, to take part in two tournaments the weekend of Dec. 2-3.

In Columbus, WKU was crowned overall sweepstakes champion with a point lead of over twice that of its next competition, Illinois State University, which took second place.

Results from the Ohio State/Otterbein Swing are as follows:

Joelle Perry, a senior from Florence, first debate speaker, tournament co-champion in Lincoln-Douglas debate, tournament champion in extemporaneous speaking and semifinalist in impromptu speaking in the Ohio State portion; tournament champion in impromptu speaking, third speaker in Lincoln-Douglas debate and octofinalist in Lincoln-Douglas debate in the Otterbein portion.

Natalie Sintek, a junior from Eagan, Minn., tournament champion in after-dinner speaking, tournament champion in poetry interpretation and tournament champion in dramatic interpretation in the Ohio State portion; tournament champion in after-dinner speaking and tournament champion in poetry interpretation in the Otterbein portion.

Lauren Nelson, a sophomore from Wheaton, Ill., tournament champion in persuasive speaking, second in pentathalon, seventh in extemporaneous speaking and semifinalist in impromptu speaking in the Ohio State portion; pentathalon champion, tournament champion in persuasive speaking, third in impromptu speaking and third in prose interpretation in the Otterbein portion.

Seth Peckham, a freshman from Alden, Kan., top speaker in novice Lincoln-Douglas debate and tournament champion in novice Lincoln-Douglas debate in the Ohio State portion; top speaker in novice Lincoln-Douglas debate, tournament champion in extemporaneous speaking and quarterfinalist in novice Lincoln-Douglas debate in the Otterbein portion.

Barry Fields, a senior from Bowling Green, tournament champion in informative speaking in the Ohio State portion; tournament champion in informative speaking, tournament champion in rhetorical criticism and fifth in extemporaneous speaking in the Otterbein portion.

Kasey Gardner, a senior from Simi Valley, Calif., tournament co-champion in Lincoln-Douglas debate and second in extemporaneous speaking in the Ohio State portion; second in impromptu speaking and fourth in extemporaneous speaking in the Otterbein portion.

Chad Meadows, a junior from Owensboro, fourth in extemporaneous speaking and quarterfinalist in Lincoln-Douglas debate in the Ohio State portion; top speaker in Lincoln-Douglas debate and quarterfinalist in Lincoln-Douglas debate in the Otterbein portion.

Jessica Furgerson, a freshman from San Antonio, third in extemporaneous speaking, fifth in informative speaking and octofinalist in Lincoln-Douglas debate in the Ohio State portion; third in informative speaking and sixth in impromptu speaking in the Otterbein portion.

Keyon Shokraie, a senior from Somis, Calif. fifth in impromptu speaking and octofinalist in Lincoln-Douglas debate in the Ohio State portion; second in impromptu speaking and fourth in extemporaneous speaking in the Otterbein portion.

Cornelius Lee, a sophomore from Killeen, Texas, second in programmed oral interpretation and fourth in after-dinner speaking in the Ohio State portion; fourth in prose interpretation in the Otterbein portion.

Samantha Harrison, a freshman from Carrollton, Texas, second in after-dinner speaking and sixth in prose interpretation in the Ohio State portion; fourth in poetry interpretation in the Otterbein portion.

Ryan Brown, a sophomore from Morehead, third in persuasive speaking in the Ohio State portion; fourth in informative speaking and fourth in persuasive speaking in the Otterbein portion.

Rachel Mosley, a sophomore from Verde, Nev., octofinalist in Lincoln-Douglas debate in the Ohio State portion; octofinalist in Lincoln-Douglas debate in the Otterbein portion.

Brian Bloss, a sophomore from Coppell, Texas, octofinalist in Lincoln-Douglas debate in the Ohio State portion; quarterfinalist in Lincoln-Douglas debate in the Otterbein portion.

Thomas Schally, a junior from Stillwater, Minn., fifth speaker in Lincoln-Douglas debate and octofinalist in Lincoln-Douglas debate in the Ohio State portion.

Maggie Work, a freshman from Mayfield, fifth speaker in novice Lincoln-Douglas debate and quarterfinalist in novice Lincoln-Douglas debate in the Ohio State portion.

Adam Heugel, a junior from Rosenburg, Texas, third in extemporaneous speaking in the Otterbein portion.

Joseph Millhouse, a freshman from San Antonio, fifth in prose interpretation in the Ohio State portion.
