WKU Engineering Faculty Member Receives State Award
December 04, 2006
Bowling
Green, Ky.
- Western Kentucky University faculty member Shane M. Palmquist has been named this year’s Outstanding Civil Engineer in Education in Kentucky.
Palmquist, an assistant professor, received the annual award in October at the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) state conference in Louisville.
Palmquist’s selection was based on his involvement as a faculty adviser to WKU’s ASCE Student Chapter which participates annually in the concrete canoe and steel bridge competitions and on his contribution in helping to enhance the newly accredited civil engineering program at WKU through project-based learning and promoting ASCE.
“Shane is deserving of this honor,” said John Reis, engineering department head. “He truly cares about students and works tirelessly to help them learn. He is truly an asset to Western Kentucky University.”
