WKU Finance Professor's Article Among Top Downloads
April 04 , 2006
Bowling Green, Ky. -
An article co-authored by Johnny Chan, the Page Professor of Finance at Western Kentucky University, was the top downloaded article in the Pacific-Basin Finance Journal for the fourth quarter of 2005.
“Ranking of finance programs in the Asia-Pacific region: An update” was the journal’s No. 1 download on ScienceDirect’s “Top 25 Hottest Articles” for October, November and December. Dr. Chan co-authored the article with Carl R. Chen and Peter P. Lung of the University of Dayton’s Department of Economics and Finance.
ScienceDirect (http://www.sciencedirect.com/) is a quarterly service that tracks which articles have been downloaded the most from any of 24 subject areas or more than 2,000 journal titles.
The article provides a ranking of 170 finance programs in the Asia-Pacific region using a set of 21 finance journals during the period of 1990-2004. The top five universities are Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, Hong Kong Polytechnic University, Chinese University of Hong Kong, Nanyang Technological University and the University of New South Wales.
The findings show that Asia-Pacific universities’ share of worldwide publications continues to rise over the last 15 years. The results from subperiod analyses suggest that a majority of the top 25 Asia-Pacific universities have experienced an explosive growth in finance research during the second half of the 1990s.
