WKU Forensic Team Receives Awards At Two Tournaments

Bowling Green, Ky. - Western Kentucky University forensic team members traveled to Claremont, Calif., and Nashville, Tenn., to take part in two tournaments the weekend of Sept. 23-25.

At the Claremont College Invitational, the WKU squad of 12 placed four teams among the tournament’s top 24 debaters. Western team members also received three of the tournament’s speaker awards. The tournament featured about 200 competitors in parliamentary debate.

In Nashville, 10 WKU team members received numerous individual awards in the Tennessee State University/TSU Alumni Association Swing. Western placed third behind full-team entries from Bradley University and team sweepstakes champion, the University of Alabama.

Results from the Claremont College Invitational are as follows:

Saeed Jones, a sophomore from Lewisville, Texas, and Lauren Nelson, a freshman from Wheaton, Ill., 13th in parliamentary debate. Jones received 14th place in speaker awards. Nelson received 25th place in speaker awards.

Joelle Perry, a Florence junior, and Megan Schrader, a freshman from Lowell, Ark., 14th in parliamentary debate. Perry received sixth place in speaker awards.

Ashley Burgdorf, a sophomore from Evansville, Ind., and Rachel Mosley, freshman from Verdi, Nev., 17th in parliamentary debate.

Brian Bloss, a freshman from Coppell, Texas, and Keyon Shokraie, a freshman from Somis, Calif., 24th in parliamentary debate.

Results from the TSU/TSU Alumni Swing are as follows:

Chris Brasfield, a Bowling Green senior, tournament champion in informative speaking, dramatic interpretation in the alumni portion; tournament champion in informative speaking, second in prose interpretation in the TSU portion.

Nick Romerhausen, a senior from Evansville, Ind., third in extemporaneous speaking, third in persuasive speaking in the alumni portion; tournament champion in persuasive speaking, second in extemporaneous speaking in the TSU portion.

Ashley Litsey, a Hodgenville freshman, fifth in dramatic interpretation in the alumni portion; fourth in dramatic interpretation in the TSU portion.

Grace Bruenderman, a Lexington senior, fourth in impromptu speaking in the alumni portion.

Melissa Messer, a San Antonio junior, fourth in communication analysis in the alumni portion.

Natalie Sintek, a sophomore from Eagan, Minn., fourth in prose interpretation in the TSU portion.

Ryan Howell, a senior from Plymouth, Ind., fifth in prose interpretation in the TSU portion.

Ryan Brown, a Morehead freshman, top novice in poetry interpretation in the alumni portion.
