Top Marching Bands To Gather In
Bowling Green For Bands Of America
Regional Championship

Bowling Green, Ky. - Twenty-seven of the finest high school marching bands from eight states will come together Saturday, Sept. 24, at Western Kentucky University in Bowling Green for the Bands of America Regional Championship presented by Yamaha.
Recognized as the most prestigious series of marching band championships in the nation, Bands of America’s Regional Championships showcase the exceptional talents of high school marching bands from across the country in competition.
The Regional Championship in Bowling Green is one of 16 BOA Championships being held across the nation this fall. More than 220,000 participants and spectators are expected to take part in the 2005 Regional and Grand National Championships, with nearly 10,000 expected at the Regional in Bowling Green.
“Bands of America has embodied its mission and provided these life-changing experiences through music for high school students, parents, teachers and the event host communities for more than 30 years,” says Scott McCormick, Bands of America’s President and CEO. “Many of the finest bands in this region of the country will perform in the Championship at Bowling Green, including several former Regional Champions and Finalists. With the national reputation of this region’s marching band programs, this is an event that the entire family can enjoy,” says McCormick.
In addition to the 27 high school performances, the Western Kentucky University Big Red Marching Band will perform in exhibition following the preliminary and finals competition at 4:30 and 10:30 p.m. respectively. The WKU Band is hosting the event, with band members serving as event staff volunteers. The complete event schedule is available from the Bands of America Web site at www.bands.org.
Participating bands include Greenwood, Barren County, Hart County, Central Hardin, Adair County, Murray, Paul Laurence Dunbar from Kentucky; Gibson Southern and Castle from Indiana; Brentwood, Mt. Juliet, Father Ryan, John Overton and McGavock from Tennessee. Other states represented are Georgia, Alabama, Ohio, North Carolina and New York.
Tickets are priced at $12 for individual general admission to preliminaries or finals. A general admission day pass for the entire event (prelims and finals) is $18. Tickets can be purchased on site at the Western Kentucky University ticket office. Children under 8 years of age are admitted free with a paid adult admission. Gates open for preliminary competition at 7:45 a.m.
Preliminary competition begins at 8:15 a.m. and concludes at 4:15 p.m. The top 10 scoring bands from preliminaries will take part in the Championship Finals with gates opening at 7 p.m. and the event concluding at 10:15 p.m.
Bands of America will also host 2005 Regional Championships this fall at the Edward Jones Dome, St. Louis; the Alamodome, San Antonio; the Georgia Dome, Atlanta; Miami University in Oxford, Ohio; Paul Brown Tiger Stadium in Massillon, Ohio; La Joya Coyote Stadium, La Joya, Texas; Rice University, Houston; Towson University, Towson, Md.; Long Beach City College, Long Beach, Calif.; University of Texas at Arlington, Arlington, Texas; the Silverdome, Pontiac, Mich.; Northern Arizona University, Flagstaff, Ariz.; Tropicana Field, St. Petersburg, Fla.; and the RCA Dome, Indianapolis.
The Bands of America Grand National Championships, America’s national high school marching band championship, will be held Nov. 9-12 at the RCA Dome and Indiana Convention Center in Indianapolis and has an estimated 50,000 total participants and spectators.
More than 270,000 teens, family members and enthusiasts attend BOA events each year with more than 100,000 teens and teachers participating. Bands of America’s internationally acclaimed repertoire of events include more than 20 annual festivities in 14 states, like the fall Regional and Grand National Marching Band Championships, the Summer Symposium (June 26-July 1, 2006, Illinois State University, Normal, Ill.), the National Concert Band Festival and National Percussion Festival (March 23-25, 2006, Clowes Memorial Hall, Indianapolis), National Orchestra Festival (to debut in March of 2006 in Indianapolis), student leadership workshops and more.
2005 marks Bands of America's 30th anniversary of providing positively life-changing experiences through music for students, teachers, parents and communities. The theme of this year's anniversary celebrations will focus on the Pursuit of Excellence, which is based on core principles of providing the highest caliber of opportunities for young men and women to become better people using music education and music performance as a vehicle, as well as the pursuit of musical and artistic excellence in ensemble performance.
