WKU Forensic Team Wins Illinois State Tournament

Bowling Green, Ky. - Members of the Western Kentucky University Forensic Team claimed top honors at the Illinois State University/ISU Alumni Swing held in Normal, Ill.

WKU beat Arizona State University and Bradley University for the team sweepstakes title in the Oct. 22-23 tournament.

A contingent of four members also competed at the Ball State University “Age of Aquarius” Invitational in Muncie, Ind. While the squad did not place due to size, the members captured six individual titles in the Oct. 22 tournament.

Western also hosted the 2005 WKU Debate Fiesta this past weekend. The tournament featured more than 100 entries in open parliamentary debate, novice parliamentary debate and Lincoln-Douglas debate.

Individual results from the Illinois State/ISU Alumni Swing:

Natalie Sintek, a sophomore from Eagan, Minn., tournament champion in programmed oral interpretation and duo interpretation (with partner Lydia Nelson) in the ISU portion; tournament champion in after dinner speaking in the alumni portion.

Courtney Wright, a senior from Evansville, Ind., third in individual sweepstakes, third in persuasive speaking, fifth in prose interpretation in the ISU portion; tournament sweepstakes champion, tournament champion in persuasive speaking, second in poetry interpretation in the alumni portion.

Grace Bruenderman, a Lexington senior, fourth in impromptu speaking, fifth in communication analysis, sixth in poetry interpretation in the ISU portion; tournament champion in communication analysis in the alumni portion.

Lydia Nelson, a junior from Carver, Mass., tournament champion in duo interpretation (with partner Natalie Sintek), second in prose interpretation in the ISU portion; second in impromptu speaking in the alumni portion.

Ryan Howell, a senior from Plymouth, Ind., third in programmed oral interpretation, fourth in prose interpretation, fifth in duo interpretation (with partner Stephanie Youroukos) in the ISU portion; fourth in duo interpretation (with Youroukos), fifth in poetry interpretation in the alumni portion.

Nick Romerhausen, a senior from Evansville, Ind., sixth in communication analysis in the ISU portion; fourth in communication analysis, fourth in after dinner speaking, fifth in impromptu speaking in the alumni portion.

David Tuck, a freshman from Alexandria, Va., second in novice prose interpretation, seventh in duo interpretation (with partner Micah Mason) in the ISU portion; third in novice prose, seventh in poetry interpretation in the alumni portion.

Cornelius Lee, a freshman from Killeen, Texas, second in duo interpretation (with partner J. D. VanSlyke), fourth in programmed oral interpretation in the ISU portion.

Joel Smith, a Murray sophomore, third in dramatic interpretation, fourth in poetry interpretation in the ISU portion.

Stephanie Youroukos, a junior from Mount Vernon, Ill., fifth in duo interpretation (with partner Ryan Howell) in the ISU portion; fourth in duo interpretation (with Howell) in the alumni portion.

J. D. VanSlyke, a freshman from Wylie, Texas, second in duo interpretation (with partner Cornelius Lee) in the ISU portion.

Melissa Messer, a San Antonio junior, third in informative speaking in the ISU portion.

Ben Pyle, a sophomore from Harrisburg, Ill., fifth in poetry interpretation in the ISU portion.

Nick Courtney, a freshman from Morristown, Tenn., fifth in after dinner speaking in the ISU portion.

Micah Mason, a freshman from Desoto, Texas, seventh in duo interpretation (with partner David Tuck) in the ISU portion.

Ashley Brasfield, a Mayfield senior, tournament champion in individual sweepstakes, tournament champion in dramatic interpretation, tournament champion in programmed oral interpretation, second in informative speaking, second in persuasive speaking, fifth in prose interpretation.

Chris Brasfield, a Bowling Green senior, tournament champion in persuasion interpretation, second in programmed oral interpretation.

Luke Gilbert, a sophomore from Talbott, Tenn., tournament champion in informative speaking.

Rachel Wigginton, a Glendale freshman, tournament champion in communication analysis.

Justin Cress, a Florence senior, top speaker in Lincoln-Douglas debate, quarterfinalist in Lincoln-Douglas debate.

Adam Huegel, a sophomore from Rosenberg, Texas, octofinalist in parliamentary debate (with partner Chad Meadows), seventh speaker in parliamentary debate, octofinalist in Lincoln-Douglas debate, fourth speaker in Lincoln-Douglas debate.

Chad Meadows, an Owensboro sophomore, octofinalist in parliamentary debate, third speaker in parliamentary debate.

John Morris, a LaGrange freshman, octofinalist in Lincoln-Douglas debate, eighth speaker in Lincoln-Douglas debate.
