Brothers Make Lead Gift To Hilltopper Football Program
Bowling Green, Ky. - Gary Koon of Glasgow and Dennis Koon of Bowling Green recently made a gift of property valued at approximately $1 million to support Hilltopper Football at Western Kentucky University.
A total of 22 lots, located at Indian Point near Barren River Lake, brought more than $500,000 in a July auction, and the proceeds will benefit the WKU Football Endowment. The remainder of the lots will be sold at a later date. Gary Koon graduated from WKU in 1966, and Dennis Koon became a WKU alumnus in 1970. Their family has been long-time supporters of the WKU Football program. "Gary and Dennis Koon have been lead donors to the WKU Football Program for a number of years,” said Tom Hiles, WKU’s vice president for Institutional Advancement. “This latest gift demonstrates their loyalty and commitment for WKU and our nationally rated Football Program. We are grateful for their continued friendship and leadership support.” "Gary and Dennis Koon and the Koon family are wonderful friends and our most supportive football fans,” said WKU President Gary Ransdell. “Much of our success in recent years can be directly attributed to their tangible support. We are fortunate to have them in the WKU family.” "On behalf of our coaches, players, and everybody who is a part of the WKU Football family, I would like to thank Dennis and Gary for their incredible generosity and support of WKU Football,” said WKU Head Football Coach David Elson. “We are having success because we have quality student-athletes as well as loyal support from people like Dennis and Gary Koon. We will continue to work hard to deserve their support and show them and others that WKU Football is a great investment!” Wood Selig, WKU’s director of Athletics, expressed his appreciation to the Koon family. “WKU Football and Hilltopper Athletics are most thankful for the wonderful generosity and display of support exhibited by two of our program's most loyal advocates, Gary and Dennis Koon,” he said. “Our aspirations for WKU are winning championships, graduating student-athletes, and developing future leaders. The gift extended to WKU Football by Gary and Dennis will aid us considerably in those efforts. We are forever grateful for their impact on our bright future.” Dennis Koon said he and his brother are pleased to provide this support. “We love Western athletics and Western Football, and we feel this is the right thing to do,” he said. “We consider this to be an investment in both Western athletics and WKU community.” More WKU news is available at www.wku.edu.
